Position Summary, Duties and Responsibilities Swim Lesson Lead responsibilities include being the on-deck supervisor for group, private, and adaptive lesson programs, events, and other internal and external offerings. This includes preparing for class, organizing equipment, and set-up and breakdown of materials. The candidate will also assist with aquatic staff development by conducting staff meetings, in-service training, and evaluating lesson instructors. The candidate will assist in training instructors and serve as a mentor for current and new instructors.
Candidates must be able to train a variety of swim lesson clientele, and teach various lessons classes, including but not limited to parent/child, preschool, youth, adult, adaptive, and diving. Candidates must also be able to assist in programming, marketing, implementing aquatic programs, and other duties assigned throughout the district. The candidate will be required to administer care and assist in medical emergencies.
Work week and working hours will vary. Evenings, weekends, and split shifts may be required.

Job Qualifications
Minimum age: 18
Knowledge - Thorough knowledge of departmental rules and regulations; principles, practices; knowledge of swimming strokes and techniques; teaching methods and techniques that provide positive motivation; working knowledge of rules, strategies, and skills; organizational procedures.
Skills: Be able to proficiently perform various swim strokes for 25 yards; demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.
Abilities - Instruct large groups of people; communicate effectively to the participants and family members; analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper courses of action to be taken; analyze and correct facility safety hazards; write reports as necessary; learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public.
Education and Experience Training – Starfish Aquatic Institute Certification preferred, training provided for selected candidates.
Experience – At least one year of teaching group swim lesson
or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
CPR/first aid/AED required within 30 days of employment
Work Environment
Work may take place in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to varying weather conditions including sun, heat, cold, snow, and humidity.
Work may occur in environments with poor acoustics, distractions, or high activity levels.
Noise levels range from moderate to loud, often due to active children, group interactions, or busy transportation settings.
Some tasks will be performed in wet, humid, or damp environments, such as pools or aquatic facilities.
Physical Activities
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, or sit on the floor as needed during activities or tasks.
Ability to reach, grasp, and handle small objects, tools, or equipment with precision.
Ability to monitor participants, ensure safety, and respond to signals or emergencies.
Ability to react quickly and appropriately to the physical needs or emergencies of children or participants.
Ability to communicate effectively, including speaking loudly, when necessary, in noisy or outdoor environments.
